Monte Cristo Sandwich

A classic  indulgent sandwich great for brunch or a snack on the go. Served using Kara Bloomer Breads or Traditional Sandwich Breads.

2 Slices Kara  Medium Sliced Malted Bloomer Breads

1 large Egg

100ml Milk

Salt pinch

2 Tbsp Mayonnaise

100g Gruyere Cheese

200g Ham

50g Butter


Lightly whisk egg, milk and a generous pinch of salt in a flat bowl.

Take 2 slices of Kara Medium Sliced Malted Bloomer Breads and spread each slice with mayonnaise. Stack one side with ham and shards of cheese. Then place the remaining slice of bread on top.

Carefully place into the egg mix and flip to coat both sides.

In a hot pan, melt butter and carefully place the sandwich into the pan, gently fry until golden. Once brown, flip the sandwich over, consistently spooning with butter to crisp.

Once cooked, carefully lift from the pan, cut in half and serve with a rich tomato chutney.
