Our History
Kara Foodservice has a rich history. Our Manchester plant opened in 1985 as a burger bun factory producing buns for Wimpy and became part of Kara Foods two years later.
While still recognised for the quality of its bread buns, consolidation under new owners Northern Foods in the late 1990s took in Fletchers Bakeries who's bakery heritage stretched back to the 1920s. As one company within Northern Foods, and with production facilities in Lancashire, Yorkshire and London, the group expanded into both retail and foodservice.
After being sold by Northern Foods in 2007, Fletchers Group of Bakeries split retail and foodservice into separate business units and Kara Foodservice was born as a £35million company in its own right with a headquarters and production plant in Manchester, satellite sites in London, Sheffield and Barnsley and total focus on providing an easy access, one-stop-shop for UK and European foodservice customers.
Our buns and rolls remain as popular as ever but the Kara Foodservice range now takes in everything from muffins, Danish pastries, baguettes and speciality breads to doughnuts, teacakes, floured baps and even pizza-base dough balls - in fact we're now one of Europe's largest manufacturers of muffins.
With a constant eye on changing trends and demand for new niche products, our range will continue to evolve as we make our mark as a market-orientated business and continue our investment in our people, our products, our production plant and the success of our customers.
